FAQs
What Is Zoom Teeth Whitening?
Zoom Whitening is a safe, effective and popular whitening treatment that’s clinically proven to whiten teeth up to 8 shades. The cosmetic treatment can be performed in-clinic at Bond Street Dental or with custom-fitted trays in a take-home whitening kit. Both treatment options use Zoom’s unique hydrogen peroxide gel to whiten teeth as well as Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP) to protect enamel and add shine.
If you choose to have your Zoom Whitening treatment done in the clinic, it can be completed in as little as 60 minutes. This is due to Zoom’s Blue LED light-accelerated technology which is used in our chair-side lamp. This light treatment activates the hydrogen peroxide, speeding up the process so that you can have a bright new smile on your lunch break!
What Causes Tooth Discolouration?
Tooth discolouration is a common concern with various root causes:
Extrinsic Factors (External Stains):
- Diet: Coffee, tea, red wine, and certain foods.
- Lifestyle: Smoking and tobacco use.
- Poor Oral Hygiene
Intrinsic Factors (Internal Stains):
- Genetics: Natural tooth colour varies from person to person.
- Ageing: Enamel thins, revealing darker dentin underneath.
- Medications: Certain antibiotics and other drugs.
- Environmental: Excessive fluoride exposure.
Other Factors:
- Trauma: Injury to the tooth can cause discolouration.
- Dental procedures: Root canals can sometimes lead to darkening.
Is Zoom Whitening Effective for All Types of Stains?
Zoom Whitening is highly effective for most extrinsic stains caused by food, drinks, smoking, and natural ageing. However, its effectiveness can vary for intrinsic stains.
During your consultation, our dental professionals will assess your specific type of discolouration to determine if Zoom is the best option for you. In some cases, we may recommend complementary treatments for optimal results.
Which Type of Teeth Whitening Treatment Should I Use?
One of the many benefits of Zoom teeth whitening is that you and your dentist can choose the best custom treatment plan to suit your needs and lifestyle.
Some people like the convenience of having the treatment done chair-side because they can get outstanding results in an hour without the hassle of wearing trays. Others prefer to gently and gradually whiten their teeth with custom-fitted take-home trays which still achieve amazing results and only have to be worn for a few hours each day.
To understand which is the best Zoom whitening treatment for you, book a consultation with our treatment coordinator.
How Does Zoom Compare to Over-The-Counter Whitening Products?
Zoom offers faster, more dramatic, and longer-lasting results compared to over-the-counter products. It’s also safer and more controlled when administered by dental professionals.
How Much Does Zoom Whitening Cost?
Depending on whether you wish to perform your Zoom teeth whitening treatment at home with our take-home trays or chairside with one of our dentists or hygienists, the cost of your treatment will differ.
At Bond Street, we pride ourselves on being completely transparent with our costs, which our treatment coordinator will personally discuss with you as we put together your tailored treatment plan. We also offer a variety of flexible payment options to suit different budgets.
What Are the Risks of Teeth Whitening?
Having your teeth whitened is an investment in you and your future, which is why it’s so important to choose a dental practice that’s highly trained in cosmetic dentistry and who can properly assess your eligibility for teeth whitening.
At Bond Street, we’ll perform a thorough checkup to assess your dental health, which will reduce the risks that can come with using inferior whitening products or inexperienced practitioners—such as damage to the roots or heightened sensitivity.
Because your oral health is always our priority, not everyone will be approved for Zoom teeth whitening, or they may require treatment to fix other issues before they can begin the whitening process.
Is There Any Pain or Sensitivity During or After the Treatment?
At Bond St Dental, your comfort and safety is at the heart of everything we do. During our Zoom teeth whitening treatments, most of our patients report having a comfortable experience with little to no discomfort.
While some temporary sensitivity may occur after the treatment, it typically subsides within 24 to 48 hours. To enhance your comfort, our experienced Bond St team applies a special desensitising gel after the whitening process. We also provide personalised aftercare advice tailored to your specific needs.
It’s important to understand that mild sensitivity is a normal reaction to the whitening process and doesn’t indicate any harm to your teeth. At Bond St, we encourage open communication about any concerns you may have regarding sensitivity.
During your consultation, our dental professionals will address these concerns and ensure you’re fully informed and at ease. Our commitment at Bond St Dental is to provide you with not only a brighter smile but also a comfortable and positive whitening experience from start to finish.
How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?
Zoom teeth whitening treatment is designed for long-lasting results that you can expect to enjoy for longer than 12 months. However, the longevity of your white teeth will depend on the lifestyle choices that you make after treatment. Smoking and drinking staining drinks such as coffee and red wine, as well as how committed you are to your oral hygiene will all determine the longevity of your results.
To best look after your white teeth, it’s advisable to use a straw when drinking staining drinks, try to brush your teeth after every meal, and quit bad habits such as smoking or drinking sugary soft drinks.
How Often Can I Have Zoom Whitening at Bond St?
At Bond St Dental, we prioritise both the beauty of your smile and the health of your teeth. While our Zoom Whitening treatment is safe and effective, we typically recommend spacing full whitening sessions 6-12 months apart.
This interval allows us to maintain the integrity of your enamel while still keeping your smile bright. Our experienced Bond St team will work with you to create a personalised whitening schedule that meets your needs without compromising your dental health.
Is Zoom Whitening at Bond St Suitable for Everyone?
At Bond St Dental, we believe in providing tailored treatments that are safe and effective for each individual. While Zoom Whitening is an excellent option for many of our patients, we recognise that it may not be suitable for everyone.
During your consultation at Bond St, our experienced dental professionals will conduct a thorough assessment to determine if Zoom Whitening is right for you. We typically don’t recommend this treatment for pregnant or nursing women, children under 16, or individuals with severe tooth decay or gum disease. However, if Zoom isn’t appropriate for you, rest assured that our Bond St team will suggest alternative options to help you achieve a brighter smile. Our priority is always your dental health and overall well-being, and we’re committed to finding the best solution for your unique needs.
Do Fillings, Crowns or Veneers Respond to Whitening Treatment?
Because fillings, dental crowns and porcelain veneers are made from porcelain, ceramic or composite resin they do not respond to teeth whitening treatment. This means that even if you have your natural teeth whitened, the material of your tooth-coloured crown, filling or veneers will always remain the same colour.
Some people who are coming in for these treatments like to have their Zoom teeth whitened before their crowns or fillings are placed so that the dentist can match their dental restorations to their newly whitened teeth.
I Currently Wear Braces; Can I Get My Teeth Whitened?
Straightening your teeth with braces is an exciting process but keeping your teeth white and bright during this period can be challenging. Some patients ask if they can get their teeth professionally whitened while wearing braces but unless you are wearing removable or lingual braces, you’ll have to wait for your treatment to be complete before you book your Zoom whitening treatment.
Who Will Provide My Teeth Whitening Treatment?
Your Zoom teeth whitening treatment will be performed by one of Bond Street’s specifically trained dentists or dental hygienists. Even if you choose to perform your treatment with the take-home whitening kit, your custom tray will be specially fitted for you by one of our experts.
How Should I Prepare for My Zoom Whitening Treatment?
At Bond St Dental, we’re committed to helping you achieve the best possible results from your Zoom Whitening treatment.
To prepare for your session, we typically recommend scheduling a professional cleaning with our hygienists before your whitening appointment. This ensures your teeth are in optimal condition for the whitening process. Additionally, the Bond St team advises avoiding foods and drinks known to stain teeth for 24-48 hours before your treatment.
During your initial consultation at Bond St, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive list of pre-treatment instructions tailored to your specific needs. Our goal is to ensure you’re fully prepared for your Zoom Whitening experience, setting the stage for a dazzling Bond St smile.
Will My Teeth Look Unnaturally White After Zoom Treatment?
At Bond St Dental, we understand that you want a brighter smile that still looks natural. Our approach to Zoom whitening is designed to enhance your natural tooth colour, not create an artificial look.
The experienced team at Bond St takes pride in customising each treatment to achieve the perfect shade for you. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your desired outcome and tailor the whitening process accordingly.
Our Bond St professionals have the expertise to ensure your results are noticeable yet natural-looking. We believe in creating smiles that boost your confidence while still looking authentic to you.
